1st Dentist Appointment

There are those things in life that we just. have. to. do. Or, at least, we're supposed to! The dentist...is one of those things.

We're feeling very blessed right now. We have great dental insurance and we found a great dentist! There are a lot of things I'm willing to deal with for myself, but I wanted to make sure we were going somewhere that would be good for the kids and not traumatize them for life. Literally!

Sophie did excellent at her first appointment. And, I was the total cheesy "blog mom" who brought her camera! She opened her mouth "as wide as a lion" and did not cry at all! We even got some smiles when the chair went up and down. The bigger smile came when they mentioned the prize box!! I was so proud of her.

She talked about the dentist all afternoon and when she woke up this morning, she asked to go again! Ha. She told AJ he could have a turn when he was big! "He is getting big, but he's not yet old" is what she told me! Apparently, she's old now.

Thank you Dr David for giving Sophie such a great experience...and for taking pictures! Not to worry, only the first appointment includes the camera. Her last very big smile is totally when she heard they had prizes! It's quite unfortunate, she gets that from me!

House Update!

We've been so thankful for the past few days of clear skies. They're making great progress on our house! We even got to enjoy the big trucks while they poured the foundation. The kids really enjoyed this part! Even going as far as to yell at the workers "You are building my house...I am moving when it's sunny!" Thankfully, for everyone, they couldn't hear them above the loud equipment.

We have a foundation!!

Why we are here

Because I am still meeting a lot of new people, I will often get asked "why did you move here?" I think it's partially to get to know me but I also think people are curious because Coos County is not exactly economically thriving and we moved from a bigger city.

It's easy to answer about Josh's job and leave it. But deep down I know it's so much bigger than that. Yes, God provided the job where we are reaching children and families for Him. But that's not my position. That's not what I spend my day doing.

I spend my day with my children, working around the house, or meeting for play dates. Why did I move here?

God moved our family for His glory. He moved our family for our good. God gave us the love that we have for this city. We love it here because God worked in our hearts as He prepared us to move. He moved our family to make an impact for Him. That is being done in Josh's job at church. He's working in tremendous ways. Praise God! But it's also being done as I mother. As I learn to be more like Him, through my daily and often mundane tasks.

I meet a lot of mothers who have visions of another life. Of days filled with tasks that seem far more significant. In those times, Satan wins the battle of robbing them of the joy that God is providing. God wants us to listen to Him, take the joy He is offering, and make an impact RIGHT WHERE WE ARE AT.

We sang this song on Sunday. It was very encouraging to me as I'm excited to see God work in this city that we've grown to love! We're excited to reach those around us for God's glory and kingdom!

I hope you feel challenged right where you are too. I hope God is working in you to know why you're doing what you are doing. I hope God gives you a love for those around you.

(You will need to go to the bottom of my blog and pause the music in order to hear this song)

Working Lunch

As I made Sophie's sandwich for lunch today, she informed me that she would need to "work through lunch today!" Ha. Apparently the little miss has been listening when Daddy describes some of his busy days!

She had her "laptop" all set up and requested a "daddy cup" for her water. AJ is always the faithful assistant!

Do You Like What We've Done With The Place?

Our permits came through and they will soon begin building! Yeah God!! Right on schedule...now we just need clear skies to excavate and pour the foundation. In March (almost April...queen of showers). At the coast. Hahaha...

We'll be praying about that one! But, as I write this...it's sunny. On a day forcasted for rain. That's what I'm talkin' about!

We had a wonderful time enjoying our "house" together. Taking pictures of the process from the very beginning. We prayed together as a family before we left dedicating it to God.

This house will be God's from the very start. From the ground all the way to the roof line, and every detail in between. We prayed for our new neighborhood, neighbors, and all that God will do by having us right in that spot.

Watch out Coos Bay...the Kintigh Family is coming to you: Summer of 2011!!

It's All Fun and Games Until Someone Potty's on the Carpet

Oh that's right...it really puts a damper in your fun! AJ is pretending to potty train! He likes the underwear, he likes putting things (as in toys) in the toilet, he even has developed a love affair with toilet paper! But, when it comes to making it to the toilet in time or even bothering to run...that's where we have the mental hiccup. He's in diapers again and we sit on the toilet when he goes in there...usually at night when he needs an excuse to get up again. But we'll be waiting a while before we stop buying those Huggies!

Now, all of that said, it doesn't mean we cannot enjoy him in his adorable underwear. These pictures won't be appropriate for much longer and neither will his chubby thighs! But for now, enjoy!!

Not to worry, my adorable niece Callie Sue was rocking church for all of us this morning! She got to move up to the 1 year old class this morning, and she's clearly pleased about the promotion! She told everyone about it and even had an art project to brag about!!

Love you Callie Sue and we pray you grow mature and strong in your love for Jesus. I can't believe you're turning one this month...such a big girl!

Satisfied on a Sunday Morning.

We are going to stay home today. We are not sick.

There. I admitted it. As a pastor's wife, I'm being brave to put that admission into print! Haha...don't worry, I'm not making a cavalier choice. Today, it was needed.

Sophie needed more sleep and mommy attention this morning and AJ is working on going potty in the toilet. And all of his big-boy underpants are in the washer/dryer. Not that he minds going commando, but I didn't feel it would do any favors for the pk reputation if he went to church in said state. Right now, in my season of life with a three and 1/2 year old and an almost 2 year old, those are valid reasons every so often.

I have been thinking a lot lately about how I compartmentalize my life and what gives situations or certain times more of a priority than other situations and times.

Right now, my priority has been to potty train AJ and to help Sophie respond in a Godly, mature way to things that happen (temper issues). The things I do all day long, could really be put in either category. Which can equate to a very. long. day.

As I do both, the verse that keeps coming into my mind is

Romans 2:4 (NLT) "Don’t you see how wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient God is with you? Does this mean nothing to you? Can’t you see that his kindness is intended to turn you from your sin?"

I am so thankful for the kindness and grace that God shows me. I know I am in continual need. I am wondering how my mothering would change, how my children would benefit if my care of them was "wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient." How they would respond if my instruction and discipline was ultimately rooted in kindness and patience. Responding to them with the love that God has given me.

I am not advocating ignoring wrong behavior, but I am working on how I handle it because their behavior is only a symptom of their heart state. Is the symptom the most important, or is the overall condition what I should work with? I have noticed lately that Sophie, specifically, is very sensitive to my voice tone and facial expressions. When I discipline is my voice tone and expressions displaying kindness and patience...which will hopefully lead her to repentance.

What is my goal? The quick turn around of symptomatic behavior or true repentance of the heart?

Today I am so thankful for God who is wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient with me. I am praying He will give me these qualities to go through my day.

Dr...Dr

What a great Daddy!!

School Party

Sophie is 3 and 1/2 now...the 1/2 part totally makes a difference! The past few months, she has taken off! She's grown physically, verbally, and spiritually. I can't believe my baby is growing up so fast. She's in preschool 2 mornings a week. It's a good time for both of us. She thrives in the classroom setting. She loves projects and being with her teacher and friends. I love her having healthy independence, learning so much, and growing in her love for Jesus. Each time she tells me about her morning, I feel like she's adding more detail and growing in her ability to tell me things.

I love listening to her say the Bible verses and I get silly excited when I see her write her own name. There is a deep, overwhelming pride that I can't explain when I see those wiggly and over-exaggerated letters!

She was so excited about her Valentines Day party! She's totally my girl. We love our parties and any excuse to craft! The writing is hers! It says "I Love You Poppy and Grammy"

To Bandon

It's so fun to explore the coastal towns now that we're close to a lot of them! The kids are getting to be such a fun age for day trips, and with Josh having Tuesdays off, we are trying to make the most of our time together!
